Exploring New Themes for Future Events

Summary: The discussion involves planning upcoming design events and soliciting theme ideas from participants. Suggestions include focusing on changing formats like hosting discussions exclusively on YouTube, expanding topics to include career development and leadership, as well as more interactive formats such as a 'Would you rather?' game and Live Critiques. There's strong interest in advanced topics such as AI's role in design, digital accessibility, and more 'Unboxing Design Systems' sessions. Additionally, participants expressed enthusiasm for interactive events that involve audience engagement, and the organizers express intent to incorporate these ideas into their future events.
AI Summary

Hi everyone! As we plan our upcoming events, we'd love to hear your ideas on the themes you'd like us to explore.

What topics, areas of design, or specific challenges are you interested in? Whether it's emerging design trends, in-depth case studies, or hands-on workshops, share your thoughts and experiences. What would make our events even more valuable and engaging for you?

I like Doctor Figma, but I think we should change the format so that discussions only happen on Youtube, as for Cases I believe we could explore beyond DS with projects and more, we could talk a little career and leadership too, although we are focused on the figma think it is important to talk about the career of Design

More "Unboxing Design Systems" sessions :p

Also, I think it could be fun to do a "Would you rather...?" in an interactive way. Like "Would you rather variables or styles?" I think it's easy to plan, you can make it online and have more interaction with the audience, or invite a special guest for this.

Hi! Here are some ideas of topics that could spark fresh discussions in this design space:

  • Planet-Centered AI: Design AI solutions that truly benefit humans and the planet.

  • AI’s Ethical Dilemma in Design: Investigate the growing ethical concerns around AI integration in design.

  • Bridging Design and Business: Strategies to better manage business stakeholders

  • Facilitation and mediation in Figjam: Techniques to mediate diverse teams and lead productive sessions.

  • Designers' code of conduct: Discuss the importance of creating and following a code of ethics in design.

Great themes, and so specific. 🥳

Late to the party here, but I think it would be cool to have a more interactive format beyond just chat interaction. Raquel gave a nice idea with the "Would you Rather" game.

We could have Live Critiques as well, where we could submit work and get feedback from the speakers + audience.

On topics, there's the inevitable AI. I'm especially interested in how Figma can coexist with new tools like Lovable, Dessn, v0, and how can we integrate them into our individual/team workflow.

Definitely into those interactive formats. Our Doctor Figma series intends to be a more interactive Q&A type of moment so you can join the call and share your struggles with Figma, but beyond that we haven't done many of those so that's a great opportunity.

On the topic of AI, we have done a few events/streams on it but we'll continue to find moments along the year to bring it back to the table. Figma complementary or replacement tools are both angles that would be marvelous to look at.

Hi there!

I’d love if you could explore the topic of digital accessibility. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Best practices for accessibility annotations in Figma – Covering differences between mobile and web, how to document accessible components effectively, and improving developer handoff to ensure accessibility is properly implemented.

  2. A review and live demo of top Figma accessibility plugins – Exploring tools that help designers check contrast, structure content, and enhance usability.

  3. How to conduct accessibility audits in Figma – Practical steps for evaluating designs against WCAG guidelines, mobile accessibility guidelines, and identifying potential accessibility issues.

  4. Creating accessible prototypes in Figma – Techniques for designing and testing interactive prototypes that consider assistive technology users.

Thank you for all the events that have been organised by Friends of Figma, Portugal! 🙌

Awesome request Raquel! In fact a few of these will be addressed don our event on the 29th of March:

Hi Bruno, thanks for sharing the event! Great initiative! Unfortunately I won't be able to attend as it's in-person event in Lisbon. But I have shared it with some designers from Lisbon, in case they are interested in attending! :)
