AI Summary

Howdy, fellow Figma freaks! I'm excited to be getting this group going and am stoked to see the RSVPs coming in for our first event on March 27 🪩

I'm working on event programming for the year, and I'd love it if you could help me out by answering the following question:

If you could only attend ONE event this year, which event type would it be? (Bonus question: why would it be that type of event?)

  1. In-person small-group skill development workshop (i.e. how to build a basic design system).

  2. Virtual small-group skill development workshop (i.e. how to build a basic design system).

  3. Moderated panel discussion.

  4. Presentation/lecture by an expert in the field.

  5. Portfolio peer-review session.

  6. Coffeeshop co-working session.

  7. Networking happy hour at a bar/brewery.

As a remote worker I extra appreciate events that provide more social engagement / human interaction. These types of events also feel "easy" to organize (as well as attend), something I find important for up and coming communities so that organizers dont become overloaded early on.

thanks so much for the response, danielle! happy to hear that there is a desire for happy hour type events, because as you mentioned, they are relatively easy to organize (compared to the other ideas i listed). i work fully remote as well, so im in the same boat. definitely looking to get more social engagement in my day to day!

If choosing only ONE event, I would have to choose Virtual small-group skill development. I am currently in a boot camp for UX and am a career changer. Balancing a full-time job, my boot camp, and a life can be tough. Where I currently am with my Figma skills, I would benefit most from a workshop as I am still learning (and riding the struggle bus).

If I could choose more than one, I would choose #2, #1, and #7. The first 2 for the reason stated above and #7 because, as I said, I am a career changer, have zero tech experience, and would benefit from growing my network in hopes of finding an opportunity for employment or volunteering to grow my portfolio and skills.

I am excited for this group!! (Apologies for the long explanation) :)

4, All these sound good but I'd like to attend an event where I can meet some fellow Figma friends and learn from a presenter.

hey stephen! i know this is quite the delayed response, but we have a workshop scheduled for the end of the month that might be of interest to you :)

Thanks Sabrina! I'm excited to go. I've been to a handful of events, they have been a great time and helpful.

Anyone keen to get together for a watch party of config next week?

sorry for missing this alexia! we didnt have a config party this year, obviously, but i love knowing there's interest. i think it's something we will definitely shoot for in 2026!

1 — I'm a design team of one at my current startup, so it'd be nice to talk shop and leave with some new, immediately applicable skills.

thanks for the response! we have a workshop at the end of the month that you might be interested in :)

Could be cool to see work sessions in a coffee shop!
